Why San Antonio Homeowners Choose KraftMaid Construction
We provide independent San Antonio Kraftmaid service for cabinet installation and refacing to island builds and backsplash work, with the kind of detail you won’t get from a generic contractor or a factory call center. Our crews work inside KraftMaid cabinetry weekly, which means we know the hinge geometry, the finish quirks, and the failure points that separate a lasting install from a callback. We’re not manufacturer-authorized, and that’s worth saying plainly: our independence lets us repair and retrofit KraftMaid boxes without being locked into factory-only parts or procedures that sometimes don’t fit the real world of a San Antonio kitchen. Call (432) 547-6806 for a free estimate.

Why Trust Sawyer Remodel San Antonio for Your KraftMaid Construction?
KraftMaid cabinetry has been going into kitchens since 1969, and it’s now part of the MasterBrand Cabinets family. That longevity means San Antonio homes have everything from 1980s oak-front boxes to current Vantage and Momentum lines, and they all behave differently under a hammer. Luca Romano, owner of Sawyer Remodel San Antonio, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and spent decades swinging hammers on real jobs across the Southwest before bringing his crew to New Braunfels Kraftmaid service areas and San Antonio. What that means for you is simple: we’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of KraftMaid construction, and we know which problems are worth fixing and which are worth walking away from. Our techs work in uniform, arrive on a live-tracked schedule, and put a written price in your hands before any work starts. That’s the Relay Standard on every job: photo updates before and after, a digital invoice you pay from a link, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise that says if it’s not done right, we make it right.

Common KraftMaid Construction Problems We Fix in San Antonio
San Antonio’s climate does specific things to KraftMaid cabinetry that you won’t read about in the manufacturer’s brochure. Here are the five failure modes we see most often:
- Delaminating thermofoil doors on PureStyle cabinets. KraftMaid’s PureStyle line uses a vinyl thermofoil over an MDF core, and in San Antonio’s humid summers, that foil can lift at the edges and bubble like a bad sunburn. The cause is almost always steam from cooking or dishwasher vents hitting the door, compounded by our humidity. Once the foil peels, the door looks tired and the MDF underneath starts absorbing moisture. We can often heat and re-adhere small lifted areas, but bubbled doors usually mean replacement.
- Sagging and misaligned doors on wide base cabinets. If a base cabinet spans more than about 36 inches without a center stile, the door can rack and sag over time. KraftMaid’s older lines sometimes omitted that center support on production runs, and we see the result: doors that won’t close square, hinges that no longer align, and a cabinet that looks perpetually drunk. The fix is usually a center stile retrofit and hinge adjustment.
- Hinge plate pull-out on particleboard end panels. Repeated overtravel, especially with kids or heavy cooks, can strip the screws right out of the particleboard. That’s the hinge plate popping loose, and it happens more on the cabinet ends than on the door sides. We drill, plug, and re-set hinge screws with a stronger anchor or, on badly chewed panels, sister in a hardwood block behind the plate.
- Finish cracking on recessed-panel doors on Vantage and Ovation lines. Those recessed center panels expand and contract with humidity cycles, and the finish can crack right along the inside edge where the panel meets the frame. It looks worse than it is, but it’s a cosmetic problem that bugs people. Color-matched touch-up kits from KraftMaid can blend most of it; a full refinish is the last resort.
- Drawer slides that grind or no longer soft-close after years of San Antonio dust. Clay dust from our expansive soils gets into everything, and drawer slides are a favorite collection point. The soft-close mechanisms on KraftMaid’s Momentum line are generally solid, but once grit works into the damper, you get a drawer that slams or refuses to close the last two inches. We clean, replace worn slides, and often swap to a better aftermarket slide when the factory part is backordered.
KraftMaid Parts & Our Repair-vs-Replace Approach
When your KraftMaid cabinets were still under warranty, the manufacturer would send factory parts. Once that warranty runs out, you’re in a gray zone: factory-specific parts may still exist, but they sometimes cost more than the repair is worth and can take weeks to arrive. Our rule is simple. For warranty-era cabinets, we use color-matched KraftMaid touch-up kits and replacement hinges that match the original drilling patterns. For discontinued lines, we source quality aftermarket hinges and slide hardware that drop into the same hole patterns, so you’re not drilling new holes into a cabinet face that can’t hide them. And we’re honest about when a door is beyond repair: if the thermofoil has bubbled across half the face, or the stile is cracked through, a replacement door is cheaper than endless patching. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll walk you through what’s worth saving.
Our KraftMaid Service Process – Step by Step
- 1
Diagnosis. We send a uniformed tech to your San Antonio home at a scheduled time you track live. They inspect the cabinet box, hinges, faces, and any structural gussets. You get a written diagnosis and a fixed price before we touch a tool.
- 2
Repair or install. For repairs, we use OEM-compatible or quality aftermarket parts matched to your KraftMaid line. For installs, we shim to level, anchor to studs, and set doors square. On a recent Stone Oak kitchen with KraftMaid Ovation perimeter cabinets, our tech found a base sink cabinet whose corner gusset had cracked, letting the cabinet rack and the quartz counter seam open. We pulled the cabinet, replaced the gusset with a plywood block and structural screws, added a center stile, then reinstalled the counter with a fresh color-matched seam kit. That’s the difference between a patch and a fix.
- 3
Test and adjust. Every door opens and closes, every drawer slides, every soft-close damper engages. We check for rack, gaps, and alignment with a level, not a guess.
- 4
Warranty and follow-up. Every repair and install comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, we make it right. Photo updates go to your phone before and after, and you pay from a digital link.

AfterKraftMaid Products We Service & Install in San Antonio
We work on all four current KraftMaid lines: Vantage (the full-overlay, furniture-style line), PureStyle (thermofoil fronts), Momentum (mid-range frames with soft-close as standard), and Ovation (the entry line with recessed-panel doors). We also service older discontinued KraftMaid lines that are common in San Antonio’s 1980s and 1990s homes. We stock color-matched touch-up kits, hinge plates, soft-close dampers, and drawer slide replacements for quick turnaround, and we order line-specific doors and drawer fronts as needed.
We Also Service These Brands
As an independent General Contractor, Sawyer Remodel San Antonio isn’t tied to one cabinet maker. We install and service Cambria and Silestone countertops, Kohler and Toto fixtures, and full kitchen and bath remodels across San Antonio. If you’re doing a KraftMaid kitchen, we can handle the counters, sinks, and tile in the same project, with the same written price and 365-Day Done Right Promise backing the whole job.
FAQs – KraftMaid Construction Service in San Antonio

No. We’re an independent KraftMaid service provider. That means we’re not bound by factory-only part restrictions and can retrofit, repair, and install KraftMaid products using the parts and methods that actually work in a San Antonio kitchen. Our independence is what lets us tell you the truth about a repair instead of upselling a replacement.
In most cases, yes. We use color-matched KraftMaid touch-up kits for current lines, and for discontinued finishes we can source or mix a custom match. Exact 30-year-old finish matching isn’t always possible, and we’ll tell you that before you spend money. Call (432) 547-6806 for a free assessment and an honest answer on whether a match will hold in your light.
Thermofoil is a vinyl layer heat-bonded to MDF. San Antonio’s summer humidity and kitchen steam can lift that bond, especially at cabinet edges near dishwashers or cooktops. Small lifted areas can sometimes be re-adhered; bubbled doors generally need replacement. We’ll tell you which one you have before writing a quote.
Check three things: the box must be square (no rack or twist), the side panels and floor must not be swollen from water, and the face frame, if any, must be intact enough to hold new hinges. If those pass, refacing or re-hinging is often cheaper than full replacement. If not, you’re better off investing in new boxes. Luca Romano has done this evaluation on hundreds of KraftMaid Construction in Alamo Heights, TX and San Antonio kitchens, and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Yes. We anchor the island base through the tile and into the slab or subfloor using heavy-duty fasteners and shims, then run a finished toe-kick and cleats to tie the weight into the structure. If the tile is unlevel, we shim to dead level before cabinets go in. We do this regularly in San Antonio’s slab-on-grade homes, where ripping out tile isn’t necessary or smart.
Usually it’s the hinge damper: the soft-close mechanism inside the hinge wears out or fills with grit, and the door loses its resistance at the last inch. If one hinge fails and the other still works, the door may rack and refuse to sit flush. We replace both hinges on the affected door so they work as a pair. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll get you an exact quote.
