Delta Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Delta-compatible driveway and paver replacement parts across San Antonio, with typical installed pricing running from $250 for localized paver resetting up to $18,000 for a full driveway rebuild. Most homeowners call us after a hard rain reveals a sinkhole in the paver bed, or after a car tire chips a corner paver that’s been loose for months. The telltale sign is usually visual: pavers that rock underfoot, joints that have gone from sand-filled to hollow, or a driveway edge that’s started to crumble into the lawn.

The truth about pavers in San Antonio is that our soil moves. The clay-heavy ground expands when it’s wet and contracts during the dry spells, and that cycle works paver joints loose faster than almost anything else. A Delta paver system is only as stable as the base underneath it, and once that base shifts, the individual parts start failing in sequence.
Which Delta Models This Applies To

Delta’s paver line splits into two broad families: their standard interlocking concrete pavers and their larger-format slab pavers, which run 16×16 or 24×24 inches. The standard pavers come in 4×8-inch and 6×9-inch sizes, with thicknesses of 60mm for pedestrian areas and 80mm for driveway-rated traffic. That 80mm minimum matters here. We’ve torn out driveways in Alamo Heights where someone installed 60mm pavers and the first pickup truck that parked on them cracked a paver in half.
Finding your exact part means checking two things. First, look at the paver itself. Delta stamps a small code on the underside of many pavers, usually a two-letter series mark plus a batch number. If the code has worn off or was never there, measure the paver’s length, width, and thickness in millimeters. Second, check your original paperwork. Delta paver installations in San Antonio from the last decade often came with a layout plan that lists the specific color blend and series name. If you’re missing that, bring us a single paver and we’ll match it. We run a color and texture match against our stock before we ever quote a price.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Delta’s pavers are made in large production runs, and color lots drift slightly between batches. A same-series paver from a newer run can be visibly different from your existing install. We’ll tell you honestly if we think a fresh OEM match will look seamless or if you’re better off going with a quality aftermarket equivalent that we can blend on site. Sometimes the better move is to pull pavers from a less visible section of your own driveway to repair the high-traffic area, then backfill the hidden spot with new stock.

Signs Your Delta Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Rocking or wobbling pavers. This almost always means the bedding sand underneath has washed out or compacted unevenly. In San Antonio, the dry-season shrink of clay soil pulls support away from paver edges, so a paver that rocks now will crack after a few more months of traffic.
- Sand washing out of the joints after rain. Joint sand is the locking mechanism of a paver driveway. If you see little fans of sand spreading across the surface after every storm, the joints are eroding and the pavers are starting to move against each other, which chips edges.
- Cracked or split pavers, especially in the wheel track. The wheel track takes the concentrated load of every vehicle that parks on the driveway. A paver that cracks in that line usually tells us the base layer has a soft spot, not just that one paver was defective.
- Edge pavers tipping or spreading outward. Driveways without a proper edge restraint, usually a concrete or metal border, let pavers creep outward over time. You’ll see the border rows separate from the rest, and soon after, the whole field starts to sag.
- Standing water or sunken depressions. Water that pools instead of running off means the base has settled below grade. In San Antonio’s heavy clay, this is usually a drainage problem wearing down the aggregate base from below, and it will keep getting worse until the base is rebuilt.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Most Delta paver repairs in San Antonio fall between $250 and $700 when we’re resetting a small section, re-sanding joints, or replacing a handful of broken pavers. A partial rebuild of a sunken area runs $1,500 to $4,000 depending on how much base material we have to excavate and re-compact. A full paver driveway replacement lands between $7,000 and $18,000, and a paver patio rebuild sits at $3,500 to $11,000.
The range comes down to three things: how many square feet we’re rebuilding, how deep the base failure goes, and whether we’re matching existing Delta pavers or starting fresh with a new lot. Every quote we write includes the pavers, bedding sand, base rock if needed, edge restraint, joint sand, labor, and haul-away of the old material. You get a written price before we touch a single paver, and the number on that quote is the number on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the paver work for a full year after we finish. If something shifts or settles, we come back and make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before you call. Walk the driveway after a rain and mark every paver that rocks or every joint that’s gone hollow. Pull up a loose paver and look at whether the sand underneath is wet, washed out, or full of ant tunnels. Those observations help us diagnose faster, and they’re genuinely useful.
What we don’t recommend is pulling up a large section and rebuilding it on your own. The base under a paver driveway has to be compacted in lifts, and a plate compactor in the wrong hands or on a base that isn’t level will leave you with a wavy driveway that holds water. One homeowner in Stone Oak spent a full weekend re-setting forty pavers and called us Monday because the whole section had settled an inch by Sunday night. We fixed it in a day. For anything beyond a single paver swap, call us at (432) 547-6806 and we’ll give you a straight answer on whether it’s a $300 fix or a rebuild.
FAQs

A properly installed Delta paver driveway in San Antonio lasts 25 to 30 years on the paver itself, but the base underneath typically needs attention at the 10 to 15 year mark because of our clay soil movement. The pavers rarely wear out; the ground under them gives way first.
No. Once a concrete paver cracks, it can’t be glued back together in a way that holds up to vehicle traffic. We replace the cracked paver and, more importantly, fix the base underneath so the replacement doesn’t crack the same way six months later. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll tell you if you’re looking at one paver or a base problem.
A small section repair, where we reset pavers and re-sand joints, takes half a day. A partial base rebuild with new rock and compaction takes a full day. A complete driveway replacement runs two to four days depending on square footage and whether we’re reusing any existing material.
We keep common Delta-style pavers in neutral colors on hand, but most color and series matches are ordered from our supplier in San Antonio with a two to five day lead time. We’ll give you the exact lead time when we write the quote, and we won’t schedule the job until the material is on our lot and we’ve confirmed the match with you.
