CWS Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock, match, and install CWS-compatible replacement windows and doors across San Antonio, with most installed swaps landing between $450 and $2,800 depending on the unit and hardware involved. If your CWS window won’t close flush, the door panel drags, or the glass is fogged, you’re usually looking at one specific failing part rather than a full-frame replacement. Most San Antonio homeowners catch it early: a draft through the corner, condensation between the panes, or a deadbolt that suddenly needs lifting to engage.

Which CWS Models This Applies To
CWS (Custom Window Systems) produces builder-grade vinyl windows and sliding doors, mostly in the 5000 and 6000 series lines used across Texas tract homes and mid-range builds. The series number is printed on a small silver or white label on the inside of the window frame, usually top edge of the sash, and it matters because balance assemblies, rollers, and locking hardware are series-specific, not universal. We’ve seen plenty of people buy a 6000-series balance for a 5000-series sash and it simply won’t seat. For OEM parts, CWS hardware is straightforward to source but often has a two-to-three week lead time. Quality aftermarket equivalents from name-brand suppliers like KraftMaid-adjacent hardware lines or Silestone suppliers’ hinge partners match spec and ship faster, and that’s usually our default recommendation unless the window is still under the original builder warranty. Sawyer Remodel San Antonio is an independent service provider, not a CWS dealer or affiliate.

Signs Your CWS Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Window drops hard or won’t stay up. The constant-force or spiral balance on a CWS single-hung dies gradually, so you’ll notice the sash creeping down or slamming shut. The balance is shot, not the frame.
- Draft at the lock rail or top corners. More often than not it’s a compressed or torn weatherstrip, not a failed seal around the glass. On San Antonio’s hotter northwest-facing walls, weatherstripping bakes out in about five years.
- Sliding glass door grinds or requires a shove. CWS doors ride on two tandem steel rollers. The rear roller fails first because it takes the weight, and the track starts chewing itself up if left alone.
- Fog between the glass panes. That’s a failed insulated glass unit (IGU). You won’t fix it by cleaning. The seal went, moisture got in, and the glass has to be replaced as a unit.
- Deadbolt won’t bolt without lifting the handle. On CWS sliding doors, the jamb catch or striker plate drifts after years of thermal expansion. Realigning or replacing that catch costs a fraction of a new door.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Installed pricing for a CWS window or door part replacement in San Antonio runs $450 to $2,800 depending on what actually failed. A sash balance swap, new weatherstripping, roller replacement, or striker realignment sits at the low end, typically $450 to $900. Full glass pack replacement for a fogged CWS IGU runs $700 to $1,800 per sash. Replacing an entire sliding patio door panel runs $1,500 to $2,800 with hardware and trim. Every quote includes the part, hardware, labor, and haul-off, and the price is written before a tool comes off the truck. You approve the number, and that’s the number on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year: if the replacement fails and it’s our install, we fix it. No charge, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the label for your series number and measure the visible glass area, which helps us confirm the part before we arrive. What you shouldn’t do is attempt a spring-loaded balance replacement yourself: those springs are under tension, and the wrong move sends metal flying across a room. Same goes for pulling a sliding glass door panel. The panel can weigh 80 pounds or more, and if it slips, you’ve turned a $300 roller replacement into a bent frame and broken glass. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll confirm the part, the series, and the price before anyone shows up. That’s the Relay Visibility Guarantee: live arrival time, written price, photo updates before and after.
FAQs

Expect 12 to 20 years from the vinyl frame in San Antonio’s heat, but the wear parts fail earlier: weatherstripping at 5 to 7 years, balances at 8 to 12, rollers at 10 to 15. The frame usually outlives everything moving on it.
Yes, more often than you’d think. Rollers, balances, weatherstripping, and strikers are replaceable parts, not whole-unit jobs. We repair first and replace only when the frame or glass is truly done. Call (432) 547-6806 for a straight answer and a written quote.
Most part replacements take 30 to 90 minutes per window or door. Glass pack replacements run a bit longer because the old unit has to come out carefully and the new one gets set and sealed.
We keep common balances, rollers, weatherstripping, and striker hardware on the truck for the 5000 and 6000 series. Oddball or warranty-covered OEM parts we order direct, and we’ll tell you the lead time before you commit to anything.
