CWS Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

CWS driveway and paver systems in San Antonio typically run $7,000 – $18,000 for a full paver driveway installation, with replacement parts and localized repairs landing between $250 and $1,800 depending on what failed. We stock CWS-compatible pavers, edge restraints, joint sand, and base repair materials on our trucks, and in most cases we can match your existing pattern and color the same week you call. The telltale sign owners call us about first: a paver that’s sunk two inches below its neighbors, or a driveway edge that’s started to crumble into the lawn after a hard Texas rain.

Sawyer Remodel San Antonio is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with CWS, but we work with their paver lines and dimensional specs every week across Bexar County, from Alamo Heights to Stone Oak to Helotes.

Which CWS Models This Applies To

CWS driveway systems generally fall into two product families: interlocking concrete pavers (typically 60mm or 80mm thick for driveways) and segmented slab systems with wider joint lines. The 60mm pavers are rated for pedestrian and light patio use only – if someone installed those on your driveway, that’s your failure point. Driveway-rated CWS pavers should be 80mm thick, and we can confirm that with a quick measurement on site.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha most San Antonio homeowners run into: CWS has changed paver molds over the years. A paver from a 2012 production run won’t always dimensionally match the same color name from a 2022 run. The chamfer on the edge, the surface texture, even the exact shade varies. That’s why we always pull a physical sample from your existing driveway before ordering replacements. We match the paver, not just the color name on the invoice. If the exact CWS mold is discontinued, we carry quality aftermarket equivalents from Belgard and Unilock that can be color-matched within a shade or two, and we’ll show you the sample side by side before any work starts.

What to check before calling: look for a stamp or raised marking on the underside of a loose paver. CWS typically stamps their mold number there. Take a photo. It saves a trip.

Signs Your CWS Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Settling or sinking pavers near the driveway apron: This usually means the base layer wasn’t compacted properly, or San Antonio’s clay soil heaved after a wet winter. One sunken paver becomes five within a year if the base keeps eroding under the surface.
  • Crumbling or cracking along the driveway edge: The edge restraint failed or was never installed. Without a solid restraint, the outer pavers take every tire’s lateral pressure and start breaking off into the yard.
  • Weeds or ants pushing up through the joints: The joint sand has washed out or was never sealed with polymeric sand. Once the joints are open, water gets under the pavers and accelerates everything else.
  • Standing water pooling in low spots after rain: A drainage issue, not a paver issue, but it destroys the base over time. San Antonio’s flash floods put real hydraulic pressure under the pavers.
  • White chalky residue or efflorescence spreading across the surface: Water is moving through the pavers and pulling minerals up. It’s cosmetic at first, but it tells you the subsurface drainage isn’t doing its job.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

Here’s the San Antonio pricing reality, in writing, before you have to ask:

  • Spot repair (5 – 20 pavers, joint sand, edge reset): $250 – $700
  • Driveway section rebuild (partial base repair, 100 – 300 sq ft): $700 – $3,500
  • Full paver driveway replacement (new base, 80mm pavers, polymeric sand): $7,000 – $18,000
  • Paver patio installation (new): $3,500 – $11,000

The spread comes down to driveway size, how much base material has to be dug out and replaced, and whether we’re matching an existing CWS color or starting fresh. Every quote includes the pavers, base material, edge restraint, polymeric joint sand, haul-away of the old material, and a written line-item price before we pick up a shovel. The 365-Day Done Right Promise applies: if any paver we set shifts or the edge restraint fails within a year, we come back and make it right. No argument, no invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely reset a single loose paver yourself if the base underneath is still solid – pull it, add a little sand, tap it back with a rubber mallet. That’s honest advice. But if you’re seeing multiple sunken pavers, crumbling edges, or standing water, the base is the problem, and the base is where DIY goes sideways. Digging out and re-compacting a San Antonio base layer means dealing with clay soil that expands and contracts, proper drainage slope, and getting the compaction right so the same failure doesn’t happen again in eighteen months. It’s heavy work with a real learning curve.

We’re happy to be the second set of eyes either way. Call (432) 547-6806 and Luca Romano will tell you over the phone whether it’s a Saturday afternoon job for you or a crew job for us. No charge for the conversation.
