Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
A full Ameristar-style kitchen remodel in San Antonio typically runs between $14,000 and $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and how much of the existing layout you’re keeping. Most homeowners come to us after living with a kitchen that’s half-functional for years: warped cabinet doors, a countertop seam that’s separated, drawers that stick in July when the humidity spikes. The good news is we stock Ameristar-compatible cabinet hardware, box components, and trim on our trucks, so if it’s a repair rather than a full gut, we can often handle it the same visit.

Here’s what San Antonio homeowners usually discover first: a cabinet door that won’t close square, a soft-close hinge that’s given up, or a corner base cabinet that’s started to sag under the weight of the pots and pans. You don’t need a full remodel for that. But if you’re chasing five separate failures across ten cabinet boxes, you’re probably looking at replacement rather than repair, and that’s where an honest price in writing matters.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar cabinetry comes in a few distinct lines that show up constantly in San Antonio homes built from the mid-2000s onward. The most common we see are the Ameristar Classic and Ameristar Premier series, both framed cabinets with ½-inch plywood boxes on the Premier line and ⅜-inch on the Classic. The tell is usually inside the sink base cabinet: Ameristar stamps the series name and a date code on the inside of the left cabinet wall, about four inches down from the top. If that stamp’s worn off, measure the face frame width. Classic frames run 1½ inches, Premier frames run 2 inches. That measurement alone tells us whether your doors and drawer fronts are interchangeable with current stock or whether we’re ordering to match.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Ameristar specifically: Ameristar’s factory hinges are a 35mm cup hinge with a ½-inch overlay, but the screw pattern is offset slightly from the industry standard. A generic big-box hinge will mount, but the door will hang 1/16 of an inch proud on one corner and you’ll feel it every time you close it. We carry aftermarket replacements that are drilled to the Ameristar offset, plus genuine Ameristar hinges for the Premier line. One thing to know in San Antonio: if your cabinets are Ameristar Classic from before 2012, the drawer glides are a side-mount epoxy-coated steel that doesn’t handle our humidity swings well. We replace those with a ball-bearing undermount that’s rated for the exact same drawer box dimensions, and we’ve never had a callback on one in this climate.

Signs Your Ameristar Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Drawer slides that grind or bind in summer. The epoxy coating on older Ameristar side-mount glides breaks down under San Antonio’s humidity cycles, and once the bare steel is exposed, it starts to rust and pit. The drawer still works in January and sticks in August.
- Cabinet doors that won’t align no matter how much you adjust the hinge. This usually means the hinge mounting plate has stripped its screw holes in the face frame. The fix is a longer screw or a threaded insert, not another half-turn on the adjustment screw.
- A corner base cabinet that’s visibly sagging. That’s the cabinet box itself, not the door. The plywood corner braces delaminate over time, and the whole box drops a quarter inch. Leveling the door won’t fix a box that’s failed.
- Soft-close mechanisms that slam. The hydraulic cylinder in Ameristar’s soft-close hinge is a sealed unit. Once it leaks, it’s done. You can’t refill them, and replacing one hinge at a time across a 30-door kitchen gets expensive fast.
- Thermofoil or laminate peeling at the bottom edges near the dishwasher. Steam and heat from the dishwasher vent break down the adhesive bond. Once it starts peeling, it spreads along the bottom rail of the adjacent cabinet boxes.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Ameristar-compatible kitchen remodel in San Antonio runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed. That’s a wide range, and it should be, because the difference between a $14,000 kitchen and a $45,000 kitchen is real: the lower end is stock Ameristar Classic boxes with laminate counters and a basic tile backsplash. The upper end is Ameristar Premier boxes, Cambria or Silestone quartz slab, full-height backsplash, soft-close everything, and a kitchen island. What drives the price the most in San Antonio is countertop material and whether you’re moving plumbing or electrical. Moving a sink or a range costs real money in labor and permits, and you should know that going in.
Every quote we give in San Antonio includes the parts, labor, haul-away of the old cabinets, and the written price before any work starts. We don’t hand you a number and then find surprises once the drywall’s open. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the install for a full year after we finish, and that’s in writing on every project. No exceptions, no fine print you have to chase us on.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself before calling anyone: measure your face frame width so you know whether you’re dealing with Classic or Premier, pull a drawer and look for the date stamp inside the box, and check whether the problem is one hinge or a pattern across the whole kitchen. What you shouldn’t do is try to rehang a sagging corner cabinet, replace drawer glides yourself, or start pulling thermofoil. The corner cabinet is carrying real weight, and if it drops while you’re under it, that’s a crushed hand or worse. Same goes for glides: getting the alignment wrong on one drawer throws off the whole stack, and then you’re paying us to undo your work before we can do ours.

FAQs

In San Antonio’s heat and humidity, Ameristar Classic boxes typically hold up 12 to 18 years before the frame joints and drawer glides start failing in a way that’s worth chasing. Premier boxes usually go 20 to 25 years. The door fronts will outlast the hardware, which is why we tell people to repair hardware as long as the boxes are square, then look at a full remodel when the boxes themselves start to sag or the corner braces delaminate. Call (432) 547-6806 if you’re not sure where your cabinets fall on that timeline.
Yes, most single-point failures can be repaired: hinges, drawer glides, a stripped door mount, a sagging corner brace. We do those repairs all over San Antonio every week. The line is drawn when you’re looking at failures across three or more cabinet boxes at once. At that point, repair costs start flirting with half the price of new boxes, and you’d be paying to extend cabinets that are already failing. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll give you an honest recommendation either way, based on what we see.
A typical San Antonio kitchen remodel with Ameristar-compatible cabinets runs three to six weeks from demo to final walkthrough. Countertop templating and fabrication add about a week in the middle. If you’re keeping the existing footprint, same cabinets, same layout, just new boxes and new counters, we can often finish in two to three weeks. Our written quote includes a schedule, and we keep you updated with photo updates before and after, so you’re not wondering what’s happening in your own house.
Yes. We stock Ameristar Classic and Premier hinges, drawer glides, corner braces, and door bumpers on our service vehicles in San Antonio. If it’s a hinge or a glide, there’s a good chance we fix it the same visit. Full cabinet boxes and custom door fronts are ordered to match your series and finish, and those take one to two weeks to arrive. Call (432) 547-6806 and tell us what series you have and what’s failing, and we’ll tell you over the phone whether we can handle it same visit or need to order.
