Ameristar Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Ameristar fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full residential perimeter, depending on linear footage, panel height, and gate count. We stock Ameristar-compatible posts, panels, and hardware on our trucks, so most replacements can be quoted and scheduled within the same week. Homeowners usually find us after a windstorm snapped a post at the concrete line, or after a gate started dragging and the hinge plate tore loose from the post.

If you’re holding a bent post cap, a cracked panel rail, or a gate that swings like it’s had enough of Texas summers, you’re in the right place. We’ll walk through exactly what ameristar fence installation costs here, what fails first in San Antonio’s climate, and how to know whether you need a repair or a full replacement.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar makes three residential fence lines that show up most in San Antonio yards: the Echelon ornamental steel line, the Montage plus series, and the Classic steel privacy line. Each uses different post dimensions and panel mounting hardware. The Echelon runs 2-inch and 2.5-inch square posts with press-fit rail brackets. Montage plus uses 2-inch posts with a slotted rail system. Classic steel panels are heavier gauge and need deeper post settings, typically 30 to 36 inches in San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Ameristar panel rails differ by line, and a Montage panel won’t slide into an Echelon bracket without modification. We’ve seen homeowners buy a panel from a big-box store, get it home, and realize the rail profile is wrong. Before you order anything, check the horizontal rail where it meets the post. Most Ameristar panels have a stamped tag on the bottom rail with the series code. No tag? Measure the post. Square 2-inch posts are almost always Echelon or Montage. Square 2.5-inch posts are Echelon. If you’re still unsure, call us with a photo and the post measurement. We’ll identify it in two minutes, and we’ll tell you if OEM Ameristar is worth the price or if a quality aftermarket equivalent from a local San Antonio supplier makes more sense. For most residential installs, the aftermarket panels hold up identically and run 20 to 30 percent less.
Note: Sawyer Remodel San Antonio is an independent contractor. We are not a dealer or affiliate of Ameristar. We install ameristar fence products and compatible equivalents because they’re proven in South Texas weather, but we carry no corporate badge.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- Post lean at the concrete line. This is the classic San Antonio failure. Expansive clay soil swells when wet from spring downpours and contracts during summer drought. Over a few years, that cycle works the post loose. We see it most in neighborhoods like Stone Oak and Alamo Ranch where soil has high clay content.
- Gate drag or misalignment. The gate post takes the most load on any fence. When it shifts even half an inch, the gate starts scraping the ground or the latch won’t catch. Most owners notice the scrape marks first.
- Rust blooms at welds and bolt holes. San Antonio’s humidity plus occasional salty air drifting up from the Gulf accelerates corrosion at any place the factory powder coat was scratched. Weld joints on ornamental steel are the usual starting point.
- Rail bracket separation. Brackets are the weak link on every panel system. When they fail, the panel tilts or rattles in the wind. You’ll hear it on gusty days before you see it.
- Post cap loss or cracking. Sun does it. UV breaks down the plastic caps on older Ameristar posts, and once the cap cracks, water gets in and sits. In San Antonio’s hard water, mineral deposits add weight and speed up the rust inside the post.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Full ameristar fence installation in San Antonio runs $3,500 to $9,000. A straight replacement of a single post with re-bracketing and panel resetting lands between $350 and $700. Gate replacement with a new frame and hardware falls in the $400 to $1,200 range depending on width and whether we’re resetting the post.
Here’s what drives the higher end of that range: total linear footage, number of gates, post depth requirements in your specific soil, and whether old concrete footings need to be broken out. San Antonio’s clay means we sometimes have to go 6 inches deeper than manufacturer minimum to prevent re-lean. Every quote includes the parts, labor, concrete, haul-away of the old materials, and a written price before work starts. That’s the Sawyer way: you know the number before we start, and the number on the invoice matches. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year. If a post shifts or a bracket fails inside 12 months, we’re back out to fix it. No argument, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a post cap is a safe DIY job. Replacing a full post is not. When a post fails at the concrete line, the fence section is under tension and the old concrete footing has to come out clean. If the concrete is still solid, that means breaking it with a jackhammer or digging a new hole beside it. If you’re on a slope, which half of San Antonio is, the section can shift while the post is out. We’ve repaired more than a few DIY post replacements where the new post went in 2 inches off line and the whole fence ended up wavy.
If you want to check a bracket or a post cap yourself, go for it. If the post is moving, the gate is dragging, or a panel is sagging, call us at (432) 547-6806. We’ll come out, give you a written price, and you’ll know exactly who’s coming and when. Luca Romano still walks every fence job himself before we hand it over.
FAQs

An Ameristar fence installed correctly in San Antonio clay soil lasts 20 to 30 years. Posts that weren’t set deep enough or didn’t get enough concrete are the ones that lean in 5 to 10 years. We use a minimum 30-inch post depth on every install for this reason. Call (432) 547-6806 if you want us to check your post settings before you commit to a repair.
Sometimes, if the lean is under 2 inches and the concrete footing is intact, we can straighten it with a come-along and re-pack the base. If the concrete is cracked or the post is rusted at the soil line, replacement is the only real fix. We’ll tell you which one you have and why, not just sell you the bigger job. Get a straight answer by calling (432) 547-6806.
A single post replacement and panel reset takes one visit, usually 2 to 4 hours. A full residential perimeter fence in San Antonio takes 2 to 4 days depending on length, gate count, and whether we’re pulling old posts. We give you a schedule in writing before work starts and live arrival tracking on the day.
We stock the common Ameristar-compatible posts, brackets, caps, and gate hardware on our trucks. Specialty parts we don’t carry can be sourced from local San Antonio suppliers in 1 to 3 business days. If you send us a photo of the failed part before your estimate, we’ll know exactly what we need and whether it’s on the truck.
