Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Replacing or repairing a Techo-Bloc paver driveway in San Antonio typically runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed, with most full driveways landing between $9,500 and $14,000 depending on square footage, paver line, and base prep. We stock the common Techo-Bloc lines on the truck and can usually match your existing pavers the same week we come out. You probably landed here because a paver cracked, the surface is sinking in one spot, or the sand between joints washed out after a heavy rain, and now you’re wondering whether it’s a patch job or a redo.

Which Techo-Bloc Models This Applies To

A dining nook with a built-in banquette

Techo-Bloc runs several paver families, and San Antonio driveways here lean heavily on three: the Blu 60 and Blu 80 slabs (big-format, smooth-face pavers common in Alamo Heights and Stone Oak), the Tradition series (brick-style with a tumbled edge, popular in Terrell Hills), and the Industria line (smaller format, slightly textured face). The paver width is the fastest identifier: Blu 60 is 60 millimeters thick, Blu 80 is 80 millimeters, Tradition typically runs 9.5 by 4.75 inches per unit. Techo-Bloc has switched factory patterns over the years, so an older driveway from the early 2010s won’t always be a perfect color match with today’s production run, even on the same named color. That’s a compatibility gotcha none of the manufacturer spec sheets tell you upfront.

We’re an independent San Antonio contractor, not a Techo-Bloc dealer. That means we quote the work honestly and don’t push a single product line. For most repairs, genuine Techo-Bloc pavers make sense, but for some discontinued colors, a quality aftermarket match from Belgard or Unilock gets you closer than a mismatched OEM lot.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Sinking or low spot near the curb or garage apron. This is almost always a base problem, not a paver problem. San Antonio’s clay soil shifts with moisture, and if the original installer skimped on the crushed limestone base, the edge drops within five to eight years.
  • Wide gaps between pavers you didn’t have before. Rain carries the joint sand out, and on a slope, it goes fast. Without sand, the pavers rub against each other and chip at the edges.
  • Hairline cracks across the paver face. A cracked paver is usually a broken unit from point pressure, like a truck tire parked in the same spot daily. One or two cracked units is a simple swap. A line of cracks running across multiple pavers is base failure, and patching won’t hold.
  • White chalky film or surface flaking. That’s efflorescence from moisture wicking through, or in worse cases the paver surface delaminating. It shows up more on darker Techo-Bloc colors, and once the face starts peeling, that unit is done.
  • Weeds pushing through the joints. Weeds alone aren’t structural, but they mean the joint sand is gone and water is getting under the pavers. In San Antonio, that water is what starts the base washing out.

If you’re seeing sinking or a crack line running across the driveway, get it looked at before the next rainy season. The clay soil under most San Antonio homes does not forgive a compromised base.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A home office with a built-in desk and shelves

A full Techo-Bloc driveway replacement in San Antonio runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed, and that spread comes down to three things: the paver line you pick, the square footage of the driveway, and how much base excavation the site needs. Smaller single-car driveways with Blu 60 and decent existing base start around $7,500. A double-wide, gently sloped driveway with Blu 80 and a full base rebuild lands closer to $15,000 or more.

Our price includes the written line-item quote before any work starts, the demolition and haul-off of the old surface, base prep to Techo-Bloc’s spec, the pavers, edge restraint, joint sand, and a final compaction pass. The number on your invoice is the number you approved. That’s the Relay Visibility Guarantee, and it works the same on a 100-square-foot repair or a full 600-square-foot driveway.

Fixed pricing. No change orders once the quote is signed, unless you decide mid-job to expand the scope.

DIY or Call Us?

If it’s one or two cracked pavers with no sinking around them, that’s an honest Saturday job if you can find a matching unit. You’ll need a paver extractor or a couple of flathead screwdrivers, fresh joint sand, and patience. If it’s a low spot, a visible slope change, or cracking that runs in a line across several pavers, that’s a base failure, and there’s no DIY fix that lasts. You’d be pulling up a section of pavers, recompacting and leveling the base, and resetting the pattern. Get that wrong and you’ll have a worse dip than you started with.

Most San Antonio owners call us after their patch washes out twice. If you’re not sure which problem you have, call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll take a look. The estimate is free, and we’ll tell you straight if it’s a hundred-dollar repair or a full redo.
