Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We install and build out Boxabl kitchens in San Antonio, with full remodels typically running $14,000 – $45,000 depending on cabinet choice, countertop material, and how much of the original factory layout you’re replacing. Most Boxabl owners find us because the factory kitchen works, but it doesn’t work for them – the sink is too shallow, the counter space runs out mid-prep, or the melamine cabinet boxes have started swelling from Texas humidity. We stock the common replacement components on our trucks and can usually start within a week of your site visit.

What you’ll run into early: the compact galley layout means almost every upgrade decision cascades. Swap a sink and you’re into the countertop. Swap the countertop and suddenly the backsplash line moves. We’ll walk through that honestly before you spend a dollar.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

Boxabl ships kitchens as a pre-assembled module – a cabinet run, countertop, sink, and appliance bay that drops into the corner of the Casita and its variants. If you own a Casita, Casita XL, or an early ADU layout, the kitchen footprint is near-identical across models, which simplifies parts matching. The critical measurement is countertop depth: most Boxabl kitchen counters run 24 inches deep against the wall, with a total linear run of roughly 8 feet. Standard off-the-shelf replacement cabinets are 24 inches deep, so the swap is cleaner than owners expect.
The gotcha: Boxabl’s original cabinets are European-style frameless boxes with clip-on doors. They look clean, but they’re not a common face-frame size you’ll find at a big-box store. We order frameless replacement boxes sized to the factory openings, or we retrofit a full face-frame run if you want more door options. For countertops, we recommend Cambria or Silestone quartz at 2cm or 3cm thickness – 2cm keeps the weight down on the module’s floor, which matters in a Unitized Construction System that wasn’t designed for a 400-pound slab of granite. The OEM laminate works fine, but it scratches fast and Texas heat cycles delaminate the edges within about five years. Buy aftermarket quartz once, and it’s a permanent fix. Same logic applies to KraftMaid cabinet doors if you want to reface rather than replace the boxes.
Sawyer Remodel San Antonio is an independent contractor – we’re not affiliated with Boxabl, and we don’t pretend to be. We just know their kitchens.

Signs Your Boxabl Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors stick or won’t close flush. The factory hinges are soft-close clip-ons that fatigue after a few thousand cycles, and San Antonio’s humidity swells the MDF cores. Once the door sags, the clip hinge usually needs replacing – not just adjustment.
- The countertop edge is lifting near the sink. Water from the shallow factory sink splashes over the laminate edge, and the glue line fails. This never self-corrects. If you see a dark line along the rim, water’s already inside the substrate.
- The sink caulk has turned black or pulls away. Boxabl’s factory silicone bead is thin, and Texas’s temperature swings make it crack. A failed bead means water runs down behind the cabinet face and into the module floor.
- Drawers scrape or bind. The drawer glides are lightweight side-mount rails. Once they bend or the ball bearings pop out, you’ll hear grinding. Replacement is a 20-minute job if you have the right rail length – which is not a common stock item.
- Everything in the kitchen looks dated all at once. That’s not exactly a “failure,” but it’s the most common reason owners call us. The factory kitchen reads rental-grade after a couple years. A full reface or replace transforms the whole unit’s resale value.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Boxabl kitchen work costs in San Antonio, installed, with our written price before work starts:
- Countertop replacement (quartz, 8-linear-foot run): $2,000 – $6,500
- Cabinet reface (new doors, hardware, and edge banding): $4,000 – $13,000
- Full cabinet replacement (frameless or face-frame): $9,000 – $20,000
- Backsplash install (tile, including waterproofing membrane): $800 – $2,500
- Complete Boxabl kitchen remodel (cabinets, counters, sink, faucet, backsplash, appliance hookups): $14,000 – $45,000
The spread comes down to material choices. A quartz counter from Cambria or Silestone starts around $75 per square foot installed; a basic laminate is half that. KraftMaid cabinets run more than imported frameless boxes, but they carry a manufacturer warranty that matches our own 365-Day Done Right Promise. Every quote includes parts, labor, tear-out of the old kitchen, haul-away, and our written guarantee on the install. The price you approve is the price you pay.
DIY or Call Us?
You can replace drawer glides, swap a faucet, or re-caulk the sink yourself if you’re comfortable with basic tools. Those are low-risk, low-skill tasks. Where it goes wrong – and we’ve fixed the aftermath – is when someone pulls the countertop off and finds water damage in the module’s floor, or cuts a cabinet opening wrong and compromises the structural rail. The kitchen sits inside a unit that has to remain square and watertight. I’d rather you call us before the Sawzall comes out; it saves everyone money.

FAQs

A full Boxabl kitchen remodel in San Antonio typically takes 7 to 14 days from tear-out to final walkthrough, depending on countertop fabrication lead time. Quartz counters are cut at a fabrication shop and usually add 3 to 5 days after we template the space. A reface can be done in 3 to 4 days. Call (432) 547-6806 for a schedule estimate based on your specific scope.
Yes – hinges, drawer glides, edge banding, and sink caulk are all repairable items, and we stock the common Boxabl-compatible hardware on our trucks. Where repair stops making sense is when the cabinet boxes themselves have water damage or the countertop substrate has swollen. We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line you’re on, and our quote stands either way.
We keep the most common Boxabl kitchen replacement parts on our trucks: soft-close clip hinges, side-mount drawer glides in factory lengths, edge banding, and sink caulk. Countertops and cabinet boxes are ordered per job because they’re sized to your unit’s specific measurements. For exact part availability, call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll check our inventory before you schedule a visit.
No. Our written price is set before any work begins, and that’s the number on your invoice. The only time we’d come back with a change order is if we find hidden water damage or structural issues that could not have been visible before tear-out – and we’ll show you photos and a written line item before proceeding. That’s The Relay Visibility Guarantee, and it’s standard on every job, not an upgrade.
