Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
If your Bufftech paver driveway or walkway has a cracked, sunken, or shifted section, we can match the replacement pavers and install them in San Antonio. Most Bufftech-compatible driveway and paver repairs in San Antonio run $350 – $2,800 depending on how many pavers failed and what’s going on underneath. You’ll usually spot the problem after a heavy rain, when you notice standing water in one spot, or when a wheelbarrow or car tire catches an edge that used to sit flush.

Here’s the reality with Bufftech pavers: the paver itself rarely fails first. What fails is the base underneath it. San Antonio’s clay-heavy soils expand and contract with our wet-dry cycles, and that movement is what cracks pavers or pushes them out of alignment. We replace the paver and fix the base so it doesn’t happen again in the same spot next year.
Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

Bufftech manufactures interlocking concrete pavers in several product lines, including the Driveway Paver series, Holland Stone, Cobblestone, and Plaza Paver profiles. The key to matching your existing pavers isn’t the product name on the original invoice. It’s the physical dimensions and the mold pattern on the paver face. Bufftech pavers are made in standard thicknesses of 60mm and 80mm, and the 80mm units are the ones rated for vehicle traffic on driveways. Walkway applications can use the thinner 60mm pavers.
Where owners get tripped up is color and texture matching. Bufftech runs different color blends depending on the batch and the region. A paver made in 2016 won’t be an exact color match to a paver made in 2024, even if it’s the same named color. We carry current Bufftech color blends and, when we can’t get an exact match from a discontinued run, we’ll pull pavers from an inconspicuous area of your installation and use the new stock there instead. The patch area gets the closest match, not the visually prominent section. You can find the product code stamped on the underside or side edge of a loose paver, and that code tells us the series, the mold, and often the manufacturing facility.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Standing water after rain. If water pools in one section of the paver driveway and doesn’t drain within an hour or two, the slope has flattened or the base has settled. Left alone, water works its way under the pavers and accelerates base erosion. What starts as a small pond becomes a growing sunken area.
- A paver that rocks underfoot. When you step on a paver and it tips or wobbles, the bedding sand under that paver has washed out or thinned. This is the earliest warning sign and the cheapest one to fix. Every month that goes by, the movement widens and pulls neighboring pavers with it.
- Cracks running through multiple pavers in a line. A single cracked paver is usually impact damage. A crack that runs through three or four pavers in a straight line tells you the base underneath is flexing. That’s a structural problem, not a surface problem, and it will not fix itself.
- Edges spreading at the driveway border. Without proper edge restraint, pavers creep outward under vehicle loads. You’ll see the border row separate from the field of pavers and the gap fill with dirt and weeds. The restraint needs to be reset before the whole edge unravels.
- Weeds or ant mounds pushing up between pavers. San Antonio’s fire ants love paver joints. The mounds push sand out of the joints and leave the pavers unseated. You can treat the ants, but the joint sand still has to be replaced and compacted to restore stability.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Bufftech paver repair in San Antonio breaks down into two categories. A spot repair of 1 to 10 pavers runs $350 – $900 including base correction, new bedding sand, replacement pavers, and re-compaction. A section repair where we have to pull and reset 50 to 150 square feet because the base has failed runs $1,200 – $2,800. That larger job includes removing the affected pavers, excavating and replacing the failed base material, recompacting in lifts, reinstalling the pavers, and re-sanding the joints.
What drives the price: how deep the base failure goes, whether we need to haul off excavated clay soil, and whether we’re working around a slope or drainage channel. You get a written line-item price before we start, so there’s no surprise when the invoice shows up. Every Bufftech repair we do includes our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repair doesn’t hold, we come back and make it right, in writing, no argument.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do the diagnosis. Walk the driveway after a rain and mark every spot that holds water. Press the toe of your shoe on each paver and note which ones rock. Pull up one loose paver and look at the sand underneath: if it’s thin or muddy, you know the base is suspect.
What we’d stop you from doing is trying to fix it without a plate compactor. Replacing pavers without re-compacting the base in lifts means it’ll sink again within a season, and San Antonio’s clay soil needs that compaction done right the first time. Bufftech paver work is not high-tension or electrical, so it’s not dangerous the way a garage door spring is, but it is back-breaking and the results are only as good as the prep underneath. One wrong guess on the base and you’ve spent a weekend to create the same problem with new pavers. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll give you a straight answer and a written price.
FAQs

Bufftech concrete pavers typically last 20 to 30 years in San Antonio, but the base under them lasts 10 to 15 years before most driveways need some level of base re-leveling. Our heat and clay soil cycle is harder on the base than on the paver itself. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll tell you honestly whether your pavers have years left or need a section reset.
A cracked concrete paver can’t be structurally repaired. Any patch or adhesive will fail with vehicle traffic and temperature swings. Replacement is the only correct fix, and we match the Bufftech series and color as closely as the current inventory allows.
A spot repair of up to 10 pavers typically takes 2 to 4 hours on site. A section repair with base replacement runs 1 to 2 days depending on access and the amount of excavation needed. We’ll give you a timeline in the written estimate so you know what to expect.
We stock the common Bufftech series and colors in San Antonio, and we can order specific blends for less common profiles. If your paver line is discontinued, we have a matching process that pulls from your existing installation so the visual patch is in the least-noticed area. We’re an independent contractor, not a Bufftech dealer, which means we can also quote quality aftermarket equivalents when they’re the smarter fit for your driveway.
