CertainTeed Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

CertainTeed fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a full backyard perimeter, depending on linear footage, style (Bufftech is the line we install most), and whether we’re pulling old posts or starting fresh. We stock CertainTeed-compatible posts, rails, and pickets on our trucks, and most installations wrap in one to two days. The way owners usually find us: a windstorm snapped a post at ground level, or years of Texas sun and clay soil movement finally racked a gate so badly it won’t latch anymore.

If that’s you, you’re in the right place. This page covers what we see on CertainTeed fences across San Antonio, what it costs to fix or replace, and how we handle the install so you’re not chasing a contractor for updates. Luca Romano and the crew at Sawyer Remodel San Antonio have been setting fence posts in this soil long enough to know that limestone shelf rock and expansive clay don’t care about your schedule, so we plan for both before the first post hole is dug.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed’s fence line is called Bufftech, and it comes in three main series: Brookhaven (the entry-level picket look), Chesterfield (mid-range with a cleaner profile), and Grand Isle (their premium privacy panel). If you have a vinyl or composite fence stamped with CertainTeed, it’s almost certainly Bufftech. The other CertainTeed product you might have is EverNew, their older deck-and-rail line that occasionally shows up on fences built before 2015.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that matters: Bufftech components are not interchangeable across series. A Chesterfield picket won’t slot into a Brookhaven rail channel, and Grand Isle posts use a different internal aluminum stiffener than the other two. If you’re repairing a damaged section rather than replacing the whole run, we need the series name, not just “CertainTeed.” You’ll find it on the original paperwork, or we can match it by measuring the picket profile and rail channel width on site. One checkable spec: Brookhaven pickets run about 5 inches wide, Chesterfield pickets are closer to 6 inches, and Grand Isle panels are solid privacy sheets with no picket gap at all.

We install OEM CertainTeed components when the fence is newer than 7 to 10 years and the series is still in production. For older runs where certain colors or profiles have been discontinued, we’ll source a quality aftermarket match that’s dimensionally identical, and we’ll tell you before we buy anything. We’re an independent installer, not a CertainTeed dealer or affiliate, so our recommendation is based on what serves the fence, not what moves inventory.

Signs Your CertainTeed Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning or rotated at the base. In San Antonio, this is almost always soil movement or a post that was set shallow against limestone. The vinyl post may still look fine, but the footing below has shifted. If left alone, the rails shear at the post pocket and the whole section drops.
  • Top and bottom rails sagging between posts. Bufftech rails carry the full weight of the pickets, and in Texas heat they soften slightly over time. A 110-degree afternoon in Alamo Heights will expose a rail that’s a foot too long for its span. The fix is usually a mid-span post or a rail replacement, not a patch.
  • Gates that won’t latch or drag on the ground. Gate posts take double the load of line posts. On CertainTeed fences, the internal aluminum stiffener is supposed to prevent sag, but if the post footing wasn’t deep enough or the hinges were over-tightened, you get a gate that scrapes concrete or won’t catch the latch in August.
  • Cracks or splits at the post corners. Vinyl expands and contracts with temperature swings. San Antonio’s 40-degree winter mornings followed by 70-degree afternoons are a stress test for any PVC post. Once a corner split runs more than 2 inches, water gets inside, the steel stiffener rusts, and the connection loses strength.
  • Rails pulling out of the post pockets. This is the one we see most after windstorms. The rail was cut too short at original installation, or the post shifted just enough to disengage it. You’ll hear the fence chatter in the wind before you see the gap. Address it before the next front comes through or you’ll be picking pickets out of your neighbor’s yard.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A built-in window seat in a bay window

For full CertainTeed fence installation in San Antonio, you’re looking at $3,500 to $9,000 for a standard residential run of 100 to 250 linear feet. Partial replacements, like swapping a damaged gate or resetting five posts, land lower, usually $800 to $2,500, depending on what we’re tying into.

Here’s the line-item view so you know what you’re paying for:

  • Demo and disposal: $300 to $800, more if the old fence is concrete-set or buried in roots.
  • Materials: $15 to $35 per linear foot for CertainTeed vinyl, with composite caps at the higher end.
  • Labor and installation: $12 to $22 per linear foot, including post holes, concrete footing, and rail assembly.
  • Gate with hardware: $400 to $900 each, installed and adjusted.
  • Permits and HOA coordination: We pull permits when the City of San Antonio requires them, typically for fences over 8 feet or corner-lot sight lines, and we handle the HOA paperwork if your neighborhood requires approval first.

Every proposal is a written price before any work starts. The number on the invoice is the number you approved. Our workmanship warranty runs a full year under the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and CertainTeed’s manufacturer warranty on the vinyl material stays with the product itself.

DIY or Call Us?

CertainTeed vinyl fencing is one of the safer fence materials to work with, no splinters or creosote or rusted wire. A homeowner can absolutely reset a gate hinge or tighten a latch plate without calling anyone. If the issue is a single cracked picket, you can slide it out with a flat bar and slide a new one in. That’s honest.

The line is this: anything involving post structure, rail alignment, or concrete footings, call a pro. Setting a post in San Antonio clay means digging to the right depth, understanding drainage, and knowing where the limestone shelf sits so the post doesn’t teeter over time. We set posts deep and concrete them with a slight camber away from the house, every time. It’s the difference between a fence that looks straight for five years and one that waves at you after two summers. If you’re unsure whether your repair is a DIY job or not, call (432) 547-6806 and describe it. We’ll tell you straight, no service call pressure.
