Cover Roofing: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
Cover roofing system repair in San Antonio typically runs $400 – $1,800 for most repairs, and a full Cover roof replacement lands between $8,000 – $20,000 depending on square footage, pitch, and decking condition. We stock Cover-compatible flashing, underlayment, ridge components, and sealants on our trucks, so most jobs are done in one visit. Most owners discover a problem the hard way: a water stain on the ceiling after a hard Hill Country storm, granules piling up at the downspout, or a shingle tab flapping in the March wind.

Cover builds a solid roofing system, but San Antonio’s climate does things to a roof that other regions don’t. The UV index here sits high eight months a year, hailstorms roll through spring and fall, and summer attic temps push 140°F. That combo ages sealant strips, dries out ridge caps, and stresses the points where flashing meets wall. When a Cover roof fails, it’s almost never the whole roof. It’s a component. That’s what this page is about.
Luca Romano and our crew have worked on Cover roofing systems all across this city, from Alamo Heights to Stone Oak to the older stock in Monte Vista. We’re an independent San Antonio roofing contractor, not a Cover corporate service arm, and we tell you that up front because it matters for pricing and parts honesty.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover produces roofing components across several series lines, and the compatibility question is the first thing to get right. The Cover architectural shingle line runs in standard 3-tab dimensions (roughly 39-3/8″ × 13-1/4″ per shingle with a 5-5/8″ exposure), but their premium series uses a wider 40-1/4″ format with a metric exposure that does not interlock cleanly with the standard line. Mixing these on a repair looks wrong from the street and voids the manufacturer wind warranty on the new shingles.
The fastest way to identify what you have: check the bundle wrapper from the original install if it’s still in your garage or attic. No wrapper? Look at the shingle back. Cover stamps the series code on the underside of every shingle, usually a two-letter prefix followed by a four-digit date code. If you can’t access the roof safely, we identify it during the estimate by pulling a code off the ridge and matching it against Cover’s current and discontinued cross-reference sheets, which we keep updated.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision: Cover’s own shingles, underlayment, and ridge components are what we recommend for anything load-bearing or warranty-sensitive. For accessories like pipe collars, vents, and drip edge, we stock quality equivalents from GAF and CertainTeed that meet or exceed the spec and save you money without cutting corners. Luca’s rule is simple: match the system, not just the part.

Signs Your Cover Roofing Is Failing
- Granules in the gutter or at downspout elbows. Cover shingles shed granules as the asphalt weathering layer breaks down under San Antonio UV. A light sprinkle is normal in year one. A visible pile every week means the shingle mat is exposed and aging fast.
- Curling or cupping shingle edges. This starts at the eave edges and south-facing slopes first, because those take the full sun load. Once the corners lift more than 1/4″, wind gets under the shingle and the next big storm does the ripping for you.
- Water staining on ceiling corners or around ceiling penetrations. On a Cover roof, this usually traces to a failed pipe boot or a valley flashing seam that opened after thermal expansion and contraction. It’s rarely the shingles themselves. That’s a good thing, because the fix is cheaper.
- Swollen or soft fascia and rafter tails. Drip edge that’s pulled away from the fascia lets capillary water wick back into the decking. We see this on San Antonio homes built in the 1990s and early 2000s where the original drip edge was nailed too shallow.
- Shingle tabs flapping in wind after a storm. The sealant strip on a Cover shingle loses its bond once the roof deck hits about 160°F in summer, which happens faster here than the manufacturer’s northern-climate estimates assume. A flapping tab is a leak waiting for the next hard rain.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In San Antonio, Cover roof repair runs $400 – $1,800 for most jobs. A full replacement on a typical 1,500 – 2,200 sq ft home runs $8,000 – $20,000. What moves the number:
- Roof pitch and height. Two-story homes and anything steeper than 6/12 cost more in labor because safety setup changes.
- Decking condition. If the plywood deck is water-damaged under the shingles, replacement sheathing adds $2 – $3 per square foot to the material side. We show you a photo of every bad sheet before we touch it.
- Number of penetrations. Every pipe, vent, and skylight collar is a flashing point. A roof with 12 penetrations costs more than one with four.
- Tear-off vs. overlay. We don’t recommend overlays in Texas, and we’ll tell you why: double-layer roofs hold heat, shorten shingle life, and hide deck damage. We quote tear-off as standard.
Every quote from us is a written, line-item price before work starts. You’ll see the shingle count, underlayment type, flashing components, dump fees, and labor broken out separately. No change orders unless there’s hidden damage, and if there is, you approve it on an itemized addendum before we proceed. The workmanship warranty runs a full year under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the Cover manufacturer wind warranty applies per their published specs.
DIY or Call Us?
Some things you can safely do yourself. Clean the gutters. Check for missing granules at the downspout. Look at the ceiling after a storm. Take photos from the ground. Do not get on a Cover roof to inspect or repair it yourself. Steep pitch, morning dew on shingle granules, and a single moment of lost footing turn a $600 repair into an ER visit and a hole in your living room ceiling. We’ve pulled homeowners off ladders on more than one estimate call, and every time it was someone who had done it a dozen times before.
If you’re seeing any of the failure signs above, call us at (432) 547-6806. We’ll send out a background-checked technician who walks the roof with a camera, photographs what’s wrong, and hands you a written price before any tool comes off the truck. The estimate is free. The peace of knowing what you’re actually dealing with costs you nothing.
FAQs

Realistically, 15 – 20 years in the San Antonio climate, even though the shingle warranty might say 25 or 30. Our UV index, hailstorms, and summer attic heat all shave years off the manufacturer’s idealized lifespan. If your Cover roof is over 15 years old and starting to show the failure signs above, budgeting for replacement now beats emergency patching later. Call (432) 547-6806 for an honest assessment.
Yes, if the failure is isolated to flashing, a single valley, a few shingles, or one slope. We repair what’s repairable and tell you plainly when it’s not. The line is usually decking damage: once the wood sheathing is soft or delaminated over a wide area, patching shingles on top is throwing money into a hole. We show you photos either way. Call us at (432) 547-6806 for a repair-versus-replace recommendation based on what we actually find.
Most repairs are done same-day, usually in 3 – 5 hours once we’re on site. A full tear-off and replacement on a standard single-story San Antonio home takes 2 – 4 days depending on weather and decking surprises. We give you a written timeline as part of the estimate, and we stick to it because Luca walks every job before we call it done.
We stock Cover-compatible flashing, pipe collars, ridge caps, sealants, and underlayment on every truck, so most repairs don’t need a second visit. For full shingle replacements, we order the exact Cover series match from our local supplier, which typically arrives in 2 – 3 business days. If there’s any delay, you’ll know before we leave the estimate. Call (432) 547-6806 to schedule your free estimate and we’ll confirm availability on the spot.
