Cover Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Cover-compatible windows and doors across San Antonio, with most replacements running between $4,500 and $15,000 installed depending on the unit, size, and what failed. Same-day diagnosis is common, and if we have the part on the truck, we’re often done before dinner.

Most Cover owners call us after noticing a window that won’t close flush or a door that suddenly binds against the frame. It starts small: a little stiffness in the track, a faint whistle when the wind kicks up off the Hill Country. Then one morning the window won’t lock, or the door lets daylight through the top corner. That’s the moment to call before the part takes something else out with it.

Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover windows and doors come in a few distinct lines, and the parts are not universal across them. We work on Cover’s 300-Series, 400-Series, and the newer E-Series lines in San Antonio homes. The easiest way to identify yours is to check the corner of the sash or the hinge side of the door panel for a white label with the serial number and series code. If that label has sun-bleached away (common after three or four Texas summers), measure the frame depth. The 300-Series sits at 3-1/4 inches, the 400 at 4-9/16, and the E-Series varies because it’s built to order.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Cover OEM parts fit exactly, and we use them whenever the original hardware, glazing, and weatherstripping are all still intact and only one component failed. Quality aftermarket equivalents make sense for certain rollers, hinge shims, and exterior seals where the OEM price is inflated and the aftermarket part is actually a step up in material durability. We’ll tell you which one we’re quoting and why, and you’ll see that split on the written estimate.

Compatibility gotcha: Cover’s 400-Series hinge pins are pressed, not screwed. If someone tries to swap them with a screw-in aftermarket pin, the sash will never hang right. We see this exact mistake on San Antonio jobs at least once a month.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing

  • Window won’t stay up when opened. The balance springs or block-and-tackle system inside the jamb has lost tension. One side usually fails first, so the sash cocks and drags. In San Antonio, the heat accelerates this because the plastic components lose their flex and crack.
  • Door rubs at the top or latch side. This is usually hinge sag, not a warped panel. Cover doors are heavy, and the top hinge takes the load. Once the hinge shim compresses, the door drops by a few millimeters, which is enough to scrape.
  • Draft you can feel with the back of your hand. Weatherstripping on Cover units is extruded vinyl with a fabric pile channel. After about six to eight years in San Antonio’s UV, it flattens and loses its rebound. The air you feel is coming straight through that flattened gasket.
  • Lock or latch will not engage. When the keepers on a Cover door or window shift even 1/8 inch, the lock bolt misses its pocket. This is a security issue, not just a nuisance, so we treat these calls as priority.
  • Condensation between the glass panes. The insulating glass unit seal has failed. You will never wipe this clean because it’s on the inside. Once the desiccant inside the spacer is saturated, the window fogs for good and the unit needs replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Here’s the honest pricing picture for San Antonio. Window replacement runs $4,500 to $15,000 for a full-house swap, and our most common Cover window repair (glass unit or balance replacement) falls between $400 and $1,500 depending on sash count and glass package. Door slab replacement typically runs $1,200 to $3,800, and full door system replacement lands between $3,000 and $8,500. Impact window installation, which matters on San Antonio’s wind-exposed west side, runs $8,000 to $25,000 once you factor the laminated glass and stronger frame anchors.

  • Glass unit replacement: $400 – $1,500 per sash
  • Balance or roller kit: $180 – $450 per window
  • Weatherstripping full-replacement: $150 – $500 per opening
  • Door slab replacement: $1,200 – $3,800
  • Full frame window replacement: $700 – $2,200 per window

Every quote is a written line-item price before any work starts, per The Relay Visibility Guarantee. That number on the page is the number on the invoice. The workmanship carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we’re coming back and making it right, no argument. And if the repair fails, the second visit is free.

DIY or Call Us?

Some of this you can safely check yourself. Read the label on the sash corner to confirm the series. Measure the frame depth with a tape. Test whether the problem is one window or every window on that wall, because that changes the diagnosis. Taking a photo of the failed part up close saves you time when you call.

What you should not do is remove a Cover sash with spring-loaded balances still under tension, and definitely not a heavy door panel with the hinges under load. Those components can snap loose and take fingers out. Luca Romano has watched enough homeowners try the “just watch one YouTube video” approach to know that the $40 saved turns into a $400 visit. Call (432) 547-6806 and let a background-checked technician handle it from the truck stock.
