Grohe Bathroom Remodeling: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
A full Grohe bathroom remodel in San Antonio typically runs $9,000 to $28,000 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a single fixture or gutting the room. We stock Grohe-compatible trim, cartridges, and rough-in valves on our trucks, and we can match most Grohe lines same-day in the San Antonio metro. Most homeowners find us because a cartridge has started dripping, a thermostatic valve quit holding temperature, or a finish has worn through and they want the whole bathroom brought up to match that one Grohe fixture they love.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Grohe dealer or affiliate. What that gets you: we install the Grohe parts you choose, price the whole job in writing before we start, and stand behind the work for a full year. Luca Romano still walks every finished bathroom himself before we call it done.
Which Grohe Models This Applies To

Grohe splits its bathroom lines into a few families, and the compatibility rules matter. The Eurosmart, Euphoria, Grohtherm, and Concetto lines all use different rough-in valve bodies, and a trim kit from one will not seat properly on another. The quickest way to identify yours: pull the escutcheon plate and look for the stamped model number on the rough-in valve body, not on the trim. The number on the trim tells you the finish line, not the valve spec.
The big gotcha we see in San Antonio homes: Grohe’s older Grohmix valves from the 1990s and early 2000s have 3/4-inch inlets, while current-production Grohtherm valves are 1/2-inch. If you’re remodeling around an older rough-in, swapping just the cartridge is smart. If you want a new trim on an old valve, it usually won’t fit, and you’re looking at opening the wall to replace the valve body. We carry OEM Grohe cartridges and a selection of quality aftermarket equivalents (Danco and Korky make solid Grohe-fit cartridges). For anything inside the wall, we use OEM Grohe parts only – the aftermarket savings isn’t worth a leak behind tile.

Signs Your Grohe Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Drip that won’t stop even with the handle tight. The ceramic disc cartridge is worn. Grohe ceramic cartridges last a long time, but San Antonio’s hard water chews through the seals faster than most places. A constant drip is almost always the cartridge, not the valve body.
- Water temperature swings from hot to cold while you shower. On Grohtherm thermostatic valves, this means the thermostatic element is failing or there’s debris in the mixing chamber. Grohe thermostatic elements are designed to be replaceable without pulling the whole valve.
- Handle feels gritty or sticks when you turn it. Mineral buildup from San Antonio limestone aquifer water has worked into the cartridge. Sometimes a vinegar soak fixes it. More often, the cartridge needs replacing. If you force the handle, you risk snapping the stem.
- Finish is flaking or pitting on the trim. Grohe finishes are good, but harsh cleaners (especially anything with bleach or ammonia) eat through the clear coat. Once the finish fails, the only real fix is new trim, which is why we tell homeowners to use mild soap only.
- Reduced water flow from the showerhead while the tub flows fine. The Grohe showerhead’s flow restrictor or the diverter is clogged with scale. If you’ve cleaned the showerhead and flow is still weak, the diverter cartridge needs attention.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what Grohe work costs in San Antonio, installed:
- Cartridge replacement (single fixture): $150 – $350, including the part. We carry common Grohe cartridges on the truck, so this is usually a one-visit fix.
- Thermostatic element replacement: $180 – $400. Grohtherm elements are more expensive than standard cartridges, but you keep your existing trim.
- Trim kit replacement (new finish, existing valve): $400 – $1,200 depending on the line. This only works if the rough-in valve matches the new trim.
- Full valve body replacement (behind the wall): $900 – $2,500. This means opening the wall, swapping the rough-in, and repairing the tile or surround. It’s the right move if you’re already remodeling.
- Complete Grohe bathroom remodel: $9,000 – $28,000. Fixtures, tile, shower pan, vanity, lighting, and the rough-in work behind the walls.
Every quote includes the written price before we start, line by line. No change orders, no “while we’re in there” surprises. The workmanship warranty runs for one year under the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it’s not right, we make it right.
DIY or Call Us?
Replacing a Grohe cartridge is a legitimate DIY job if you have the right size hex key and a cartridge puller. Grohe cartridges come out cleanly in most cases. The problem is diagnosis: a drip can also be a cracked valve body, bad O-ring, or debris in the supply line. If you swap the cartridge and the drip continues, you’ve spent $80 and an afternoon learning what we’d have spotted in ten minutes.
Anything behind the wall is not a DIY job. Cutting into tile, replacing a rough-in valve, and waterproofing the repair properly is trade work, and a bad waterproofing job in San Antonio’s humidity equals mold inside your wall within a year. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll tell you over the phone whether it’s a cartridge job or a remodel job, and what each one costs.
FAQs

With San Antonio’s hard water, expect 8 to 12 years from an OEM Grohe cartridge before it starts dripping or sticking. Cartridges in homes with water softeners routinely last 15 years or more.
Sometimes. If the cartridge is just scaled up, a vinegar soak and light cleaning will buy you a few more months. But a worn ceramic disc can’t be repaired, only replaced. We’ll tell you which one you’re dealing with.
A cartridge replacement is usually 45 minutes to an hour. A full trim swap runs one to two hours. A rough-in valve replacement behind the wall takes half a day, plus time to patch and waterproof the opening. Call (432) 547-6806 to schedule a free estimate.
We keep the most common Grohe cartridges, thermostatic elements, and trim kits for Eurosmart, Euphoria, and Grohtherm lines on our trucks. Oddball finishes or less common valve bodies may need a two-to-three-day order. We’ll confirm availability before you commit to anything.
No. The number we put in writing before we start is the number on your invoice. If we find something unexpected behind the wall, we stop, show you photos, explain the new number, and get your approval in writing before touching it. That’s The Relay Standard, and it’s how every Sawyer Remodel San Antonio job runs. We also install KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and other name-brand material lines if your Grohe fix turns into a full remodel.
Ready to get your Grohe bathroom working right? Call (432) 547-6806 for a free estimate. We’ll give you a written price, tell you exactly who’s coming and when, and leave you with a bathroom that works like it should. The craft comes first. Everything else follows.
