Mr-Glass Windows & Doors: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Mr-Glass-compatible windows and doors across San Antonio, with most part replacements running $180 to $850 installed depending on whether you need a roller, a balance, weatherstripping, or a full sash. Most repair calls get scheduled same-week, and we carry the common Mr-Glass parts on the truck so we’re not making you wait on a second trip. The way most San Antonio homeowners discover a failed part is the same: a window that suddenly feels heavier than it should, a sliding door that grinds instead of glides, or a door that won’t latch clean anymore. It’s rarely dramatic. It’s just one morning you try to open the window for air and the thing fights you back.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass used a handful of standard series across Texas installations, and the good news is that the moving parts, balances, rollers, and locks follow common sizes rather than proprietary one-offs on most builds. The compatibility gotcha is this: the aluminum-frame and vinyl-frame Mr-Glass lines use different balance systems. An aluminum-frame window from the mid-2000s typically uses a block-and-tackle balance, while the vinyl series switched to a spiral balance on many models. Parts don’t cross between them. Before you order anything, check the metal channel inside the window jamb. There’s usually an etched code, a length stamp, or at minimum a stamped weight rating. If the sticker is gone, a 30-second measurement of the sash width and balance length gets us the right match. On OEM versus aftermarket: Mr-Glass OEM parts are fine when available, but the aftermarket equivalents we use from Caldwell and Prime-Line often have better nylon compounds than the originals that shipped a decade ago. We’re happy to use either; we just tell you the difference and let you decide.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The window drops when you let go. A balance that’s lost tension or a broken balance shoe. This is the most common failure we see in San Antonio, because heat cycles wear out the tension springs in the balance channel faster than anything else.
- The sliding door feels like it’s rolling through gravel. Worn roller wheels. The nylon on Mr-Glass rollers flattens over time, and once the metal hub touches the track, the track starts scoring. Replacing the rollers early saves you from replacing the track later.
- Drafts around the frame even when it’s closed. Compressed or dried-out weatherstripping. San Antonio’s dry heat bakes the foam and pile strips after five to seven years, and once they’re flat, you’re paying to air-condition the yard.
- The lock or latch only catches sometimes. Frame sag or a stripped lock mechanism. Sliding doors in particular settle out of square, and the lock is usually the first casualty because it has the tightest tolerance.
- Condensation or haze between the glass panes. Failed seal on the insulated glass unit. Once the seal goes, argon leaks out and the glass fogs permanently. You can’t really clean it. The glass unit itself gets replaced.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For San Antonio Mr-Glass repair work, here’s what you should expect. Roller replacement on a sliding door runs $180 to $350 installed. A window balance replacement runs $120 to $260 per window, depending on whether it’s one balance or a pair. Weatherstripping and seal replacement runs $150 to $350 per opening. Full insulated glass unit replacement runs $450 to $850 depending on size and low-E coating. These are parts-plus-labor numbers: the part, the install, the haul-away, and a written line-item price before we start. The thing that moves the price on the upper end is usually access, meaning a second-story window or a door that’s so far out of square the frame needs re-shimming before the new parts will sit right. Every Mr-Glass part we install carries our written workmanship warranty, and per our 365-Day Done Right Promise, if it fails within a year, we come back and make it right. No argument, no invoice.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. There are things you can safely do yourself: you can inspect the track for debris, check the weatherstripping for flattening, and note whether the window takes more effort to lift than it did last year. What we’d steer you away from is replacing window balances yourself. Those springs hold tension even when the sash is out, and a balance that releases wrong will take a chunk out of a hand. Same with removing a sliding door to access the rollers. Those panels run eighty to a hundred pounds, and once it’s off the track, it’s a two-person job to get it back without bending the frame. If you’re dealing with a broken lock, a worn roller, or a balance that’s gone soft, call us at (432) 547-6806 and we’ll give you a straight quote before anybody shows up.
FAQs

Balances and rollers typically last eight to twelve years in San Antonio’s climate, while weatherstripping often needs replacement at the five-to-seven-year mark because of UV and dry heat exposure. A window facing full west sun will age faster than one on a shaded north wall. Call (432) 547-6806 and we’ll tell you honestly whether a part is at end-of-life or has years left.
Rollers and balances are generally replacement items because the failure is mechanical fatigue in the spring or the nylon, not something a lubricant or adjustment will fix. Weatherstripping sometimes responds to re-seating, but a flattened seal is a flattened seal. We won’t sell you a replacement if a simple fix does the job, and our written estimate shows exactly what you’re paying for.
Most single-part Mr-Glass replacements take 45 to 90 minutes on site. A sliding door roller swap is usually under an hour. Full glass unit replacements run a bit longer because the old glazing bead has to come out clean and the new unit has to be set level. Your quote includes the time, so there’s no surprise line item.
We carry the common balances, rollers, locks, and weatherstripping for Mr-Glass aluminum and vinyl lines on the truck, so most San Antonio calls are a one-visit fix. Odd-size glass units are ordered and in hand before we schedule the install. Call (432) 547-6806 and describe what your window or door is doing; we’ll tell you right then if it’s a same-week fix.
If your Mr-Glass window or door is giving you trouble, don’t keep fighting it. Call (432) 547-6806 for a free estimate. We’ll give you a written price, show up on time, and get the thing working like it should. The craft comes first. Everything else follows.
