Owens Corning Driveway & Pavers: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide
We install and replace Owens Corning-compatible driveway and paver systems across San Antonio, with most paver driveway jobs running between $7,000 and $18,000 installed. If your existing pavers are sinking, cracking at the edges, or shifting after rain, we can usually diagnose it in one visit and get the repair or replacement scheduled the same week. Most San Antonio homeowners discover a problem after a heavy storm, when a low spot turns into a puddle that sits for days or a paver pops loose near the curb.

What you’re dealing with is rarely the paver itself failing. Owens Corning pavers are fired hard and hold up to San Antonio’s sun. The failure is almost always underneath: a base layer that wasn’t compacted right, edge restraints that let go, or drainage that sends water where it shouldn’t go. That matters because swapping a paver without fixing the base means you’ll be back out here in eighteen months looking at the same problem.
We’re an independent San Antonio contractor. We’re not affiliated with Owens Corning, but we work with their paver systems regularly and know how they behave in our soil and our climate.
Which Owens Corning Models This Applies To

Owens Corning doesn’t sell driveway pavers under the Owens Corning name the way they do roofing shingles. Their paver line comes through their acquisition of Cultured Stone and related hardscape brands, so you’ll often see these labeled as Owens Corning Cultured Stone pavers or Owens Corning ProStone. If you bought the home with existing pavers and don’t have paperwork, check the underside of a loose paver for a molded stamp or the edge of the paver for a color code. Most Owens Corning pavers run 60mm thick for driveways, which is the tell: driveway-rated pavers need that thickness to carry vehicle weight. Patio pavers at 40mm won’t survive a pickup truck.
The compatibility gotcha in San Antonio is the color lot. Owens Corning runs color batches in limited production cycles. If your driveway was installed more than three or four years ago, finding an exact color match for a patch job is hit or miss. That’s not a knock on the product, it’s reality for every manufacturer. When exact match isn’t available, we can pull pavers from a less visible section and use the new stock there, so the repair blends instead of standing out.
For OEM versus aftermarket: Owens Corning pavers have tight dimensional tolerances, which matters on a large driveway. Cheap aftermarket equivalents often vary by a millimeter or two per paver. Over a twenty-foot run, that adds up to wavy lines and uneven joints. We’ll use OEM when the budget allows, and we’ll tell you plainly when an aftermarket paver will hold up fine for the application.

Signs Your Owens Corning Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Low spots that hold water after rain. This means the base layer under the pavers has settled or washed out, usually from poor compaction or a drainage issue that was never addressed. In San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil, this is the most common failure we see.
- Paver edges pulling away from the curb or driveway border. The edge restraint, typically plastic or aluminum, has failed or wasn’t installed properly. Once the edge lets go, the whole field starts drifting outward a fraction of an inch at a time.
- Cracks running across multiple pavers in a line. A single cracked paver is a paver problem. A line of cracked pavers means the base is moving underneath and transferring stress through the surface. Replacing just the cracked pavers won’t stop the next crack.
- Weeds and ants pushing up between joints. Joint sand has washed out or broken down. San Antonio’s heat bakes polymeric sand faster than cooler climates, so joints need re-sanding every five to seven years here even on a good install.
- Loose or rocking pavers underfoot. The bedding layer has thinned out or the paver itself has worn. Rocking pavers chip at the edges and get worse quickly once a vehicle drives over them routinely.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a full paver driveway replacement in San Antonio, budget $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, access to the site, and whether we’re fixing base prep or starting from scratch. A partial repair, like pulling and re-setting a sunken section, typically runs $1,500 to $4,500. If you’re looking at new paver installation on a different part of the property, patio-grade work falls in the $3,500 to $11,000 range.

What drives the price most is what’s under the pavers. The paver itself is maybe a third of the job. If we have to excavate bad base material, haul it off, and bring in fresh road base and crushed granite, that’s where the labor and materials add up. Every quote we write includes that line-item breakdown: base prep, sand, pavers, edge restraint, labor, haul-off. You’ll see it all before you approve anything.
Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every driveway and paver job we do. If something settles, shifts, or fails within a year, we come back and fix it. That’s in writing, on every quote.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Walk the driveway after a rain and mark low spots with chalk. Look at the edges where the pavers meet the curb or lawn. Pop a loose paver up and look at what’s under it: if you see dark, wet, muddy base material instead of dry compacted road base, that’s your problem, and it’s not something a weekend of re-sanding will fix.
What goes wrong with DIY is the base. Lifting and re-setting a few pavers without re-compacting the base underneath is like putting a new tire on a bent rim. It looks fine for a few months. The other thing owners underestimate is compaction. You can rent a plate compactor, but base prep needs to be done in lifts, each one compacted and checked. Most homeowners compact once, lay pavers, and wonder why the driveway dips in year two. If you want it to stay flat, call us at (432) 547-6806 and we’ll do a site assessment and give you a written price.
FAQs

A properly installed paver driveway with an Owens Corning paver will last 25 to 40 years in San Antonio, but the paver itself isn’t the limiting factor. The base layer and joint sand wear out faster here, so figure on re-sanding every five to seven years and occasional localized base repair. The Texas sun will fade color slightly over time, but the structural paver holds. Call (432) 547-6806 if your driveway is showing its age and you want an honest read on what’s left.
Yes, in most cases we can pull and re-set a sunken or cracked section without touching the rest of the driveway. The catch is base condition: if the base has failed in one area, it usually means it wasn’t compacted right everywhere, and more sections will follow. We’ll tell you if we think a repair buys you five years or fifteen. Estimates are free, and the quote is written, so you’ll know the number before you decide.
A standard two-car driveway takes our crew three to five working days from demolition to final compaction and sand. Add a day if we’re hauling off a lot of old base material or if access to the backyard is tight. You’ll have a live arrival time and photo updates throughout, so you’re never guessing when we’ll show up.
We keep common paver sizes and edge restraints on the truck for repair calls, but Owens Corning color lots are too varied to stock every shade. For repairs, we’ll match what you have from local supplier inventory, and if the exact color isn’t available, we’ll pull from a less visible area so the patch doesn’t shout. Call us at (432) 547-6806 and we’ll let you know what’s available before you schedule.
