Sakrete Fence Installation: The San Antonio Owner’s Guide

Sakrete fence installation in San Antonio typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a standard residential perimeter, including concrete post footings, materials, and labor. We stock Sakrete fast-setting concrete and high-strength mix on our trucks, so most fence projects start within a week of your written estimate, not a month out. The call we get most often starts the same way: a homeowner pulls a fence post out of the ground and the concrete footing comes with it, cracked clean through, or they notice the post leaning after the first good rain. That’s the moment they realize the original pour was too shallow, mixed too wet, or never cured properly in our San Antonio heat.

If your fence posts are wobbling in loose gravel or the panels pull away at the corners, the Sakrete side of the job was probably never done right in the first place. We fix that.

Which Sakrete Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

We work with the full Sakrete product line for fence work: Fast-Setting Concrete Mix, High-Strength Concrete Mix, and the 50-lb and 80-lb bag sizes most common in Texas big-box stores. The compatibility gotcha most San Antonio homeowners miss is this: Sakrete Fast-Setting is rated for fence posts but not for load-bearing corners or gate posts over 4 feet wide. Those need High-Strength mix or the post will lean within two seasons. Check the bag label. If it says “fast-setting” and your gate post is holding a 6-foot steel gate, that’s your problem.

For post replacement, we use OEM Sakrete mixes matched to your original pour when the existing bag labels are still legible or when the homeowner knows what was used. When the original concrete is unidentifiable, we default to High-Strength mix with a 3,500 PSI rating, which handles San Antonio’s clay-heavy soil and our summer expansion cycles better than anything fast-setting. We don’t push no-name aftermarket concrete on fence work. The price difference is a few dollars per bag, and the failure difference shows up in year three.

Signs Your Sakrete Fence Installation Is Failing

  • Posts leaning more than 5 degrees from vertical. The concrete footing has cracked below grade or was poured too shallow. In San Antonio’s clay soil, a footing needs to go at least 24 inches deep or the seasonal shrink-swell cycle will lever it loose.
  • Concrete collar around the base is intact but the post wobbles inside it. The post was set while the mix was too wet, or the hole had standing water in it. The bond never formed.
  • Hairline cracks running through the exposed concrete at ground level. This is freeze-thaw and soil movement working on a mix that was over-watered at pour time. It won’t get better.
  • Fence sections separating at the rails. One post is sinking or heaving while its neighbor stays put. The differential movement pulls the rails apart at the fasteners.
  • Gate dragging or refusing to latch after a heavy rain. The gate post footing is failing. A gate post with a 6-foot gate needs a bigger footing and deeper set than a line post. When it’s done with the wrong mix or depth, the gate tells you first.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A finished basement family room with a media wall and wet bar

In San Antonio, a full Sakrete fence installation runs $3,500 to $9,000 depending on linear footage, post count, gate width, and whether we’re pulling old concrete or starting fresh. A single failed post replacement with new Sakrete mix and labor typically lands between $300 and $700 per post, including removing the old footing. The range moves on access: if your fence line backs up to a greenbelt or a neighbor’s shed, we’re hand-digging and hauling spoils, and that labor is real.

Every written quote includes the concrete bags, new posts if needed, hardware, and the labor to set and brace them properly. No change orders. No “we found soft soil and now it’s more” phone calls. The price in your hand is the price on the invoice. And the work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a post we set starts moving within a year, we come back and pour it again at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. You can check your fence line yourself: walk it after a rain, look for posts that have shifted, run a level against the post at ground level. If the post is leaning and the concrete collar has pulled away from the soil, you already know. What you shouldn’t do is dig out and reset a gate post on a 6-foot fence as a weekend project unless you’re comfortable mixing 80-pound bags in July heat and bracing the post perfectly plumb while it cures. Gate posts fail twice as often as line posts because they carry dynamic load, and a gate that sags into the latch means your pool fence or yard fence no longer closes. That’s a safety problem, not just a curb appeal problem.

If the post is in a corner, carries a gate, or is one of three or more that moved, call us at (432) 547-6806. We’ll send someone out, put numbers in writing, and tell you honestly which posts can be saved and which ones need re-pouring.
